Franz Patay: Addressing a global Problem

fair music - For the emergence of a fair future music industry
Sadly, fairness in culture is not a given. Artists today are active in global markets, they are actors in a global culture in which variety is steadily being eroded.
The last few years have seen the multiple changes which globalisation has brought to the music industry. The entire industry is undergoing massive changes. It is high time to address questions of fairness and unfairness inside the music industry.
fair music is an especially important and worthy initiative in that it addresses the problem globally and seeks solutions at an international level. The fair music manifesto is a good basis for the emergence of a future music industry, an industry in which musical creativity is allowed to both flower under favourable conditions while at the same time being fairly compensated. I am happy that within the framework of the recent Mozart anniversary year that I was able to lay the cornerstone for this initiative which has my full support.
Franz Patay is secretary general of the IMZ - International Music + Media Centre. He is member of the board of the IMC - International Music Council of UNESCO and served as the CEO of the Mozart Year Vienna 2006.
