The project “fair music” falls within the scope of the UNESCO Convention on Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expression and meets the goals and intentions of the UNESCO Convention, which entered into force on 18 March 2007. This project contributes to the development of Fair Trade standards for cultural goods and services.

The niches of today could be the arenas of tomorrow
The globalisation of the musical market strengthens the strong and weakens the weak; it also endangers cultural variety. “Fair Music” strives for a globalised resistance against such mainstream tendencies in all genres. In place of “beautiful and rich”, this resistance strives for “creative and fair”.

Hands-on information about copyright issues for students, free music for the public and the zest for artists to take part in a competition - that’s what the Open Music Contest wanted to offer. After it’s 3rd successful round the contest wants to spread from Marburg, Germany, to the world.

Addressing the social and economic dilemmas of digital technologies
